Students who have enjoyed this subject can opt to complete anl A-level in Product Design. Whilst there is no formal requirement for them to have completed a GCSE in Design Technology, they will find their previous experience useful. The A-level course is similar to the GCSE course, in that it is assessed via a written examination and a major project. With each component accounting for 50% of the A-level. Students who opt to take this course enjoy the freedom to develop their skills and create interesting and unique projects. We have enjoyed success at A-level with a 100% pass rate at grades A* to B for several years.
We have a well-equipped workshop incorporating a variety of tools and technologies. Traditional hand tools are available for bench joinery projects, graphic design and textiles. Machinery for woodworking and engineering is also widely used. Most recently we have invested in Computer Aided Design and manufacturing equipment. We have a cutter plotter to make signs a number of 3 dimensional printers which can make objects in plastics and a large format laser cutter.
