Sixth Form
While it may be one of the most challenging phases of a pupil's education, the Sixth Form at Longridge is also an exciting, thriving and successful segment of the school where pupils find they have to balance the demands of study with increases in both freedom and responsibility.
By providing them with the guidance and support so essential at this stage, Sixth Formers find this makes it one of the most memorable and enjoyable years of their lives as they prepare to leave for the wider world.
At Longridge we take considerable care in preparation for this time in our pupils' lives and they are offered balanced advice on the most suitable choices for Sixth Form study, based on their strengths, interests and of course career intentions. All Sixth Formers take AS General Studies, PSHE (Personal, Social & Health Education) and Sports to complete their weekly timetable.
The majority of our Sixth Formers go on to further education and we have, normally, over 50 students studying AS and A Levels in preparation for university entrance. Pupils must have at least five GCSEs at grade C or above before they may study AS or A levels but this is rarely a problem for internal candidates as it is usual that more than 90 per cent of them have passed five GCSEs or more, usually with B passes.
All senior pupils benefit from ‘Futurewise', a careers programme offered by ISCO (Independent Schools Careers Organisation) which includes a Morrisby Careers Profile - Morrisby profiles are popular with commercial and industrial organisations as part of their recruitment and selection process - and an interview with a qualified Careers Adviser. Career guidance is available to pupils until the age of 23.
Londgridge staff are closely involved in the delivery of the careers programme while advice on University entrance, careers and the completion of UCAS forms is also given by the Sixth Form tutors and the Head of Sixth Form Studies who is also responsible for monitoring academic progress.
Life in the Sixth Form is very busy, exciting and fulfilling.
