Self Defence
Please note that this enrichment is charged at £2 per session
This is a short course for this session of enrichment only. An external instructor will
deliver 7 sessions on basic self defence and escape technique in the event of an attack.
This could be particularly useful to the 5th and 6th form.
Flora and Fauna Survey
The intention is to completely the flora and fauna found in the grounds of the school. A
database of all the findings will be produced and entered on the BBC nature-watch
website. This activity has not been undertaken before and would be valuable to those who
have an interest in nature and conservation.
Philosophy and current affairs
This activity will involve research into the important affairs of world news and discussion
into the relevance to us and the wider picture. This activity will improve debating and
presentation skills for those involved. This is aimed at the upper end of the age range
within the school. Students will be invited to partake in this activity as part of the
school’s gifted and talented programme.
Biology Olympiad
The British Biology Olympiad tries to challenge and stimulate gifted students with an
interest in Biology to expand and extend their talents. In offering a wider syllabus than Alevel,
it allows gifted students to demonstrate their knowledge and to be suitably
rewarded and publicly recognised by the award of medals, certificates and other prizes. It
is hoped that competing in the Olympiad will encourage students already interested in
this valuable, wide-ranging and rewarding subject to continue their study beyond A-level.

Chinese Club
With a small Chinese population within LTS, this is an ideal opportunity to learn about
the culture of China, its languages and people. The activity will be delivered in part by
some of the Chinese students and in part by internet based research. This would be an
excellent activity to choose if you have an interest in participating on the planned
exchange to Dalian, China next year.
Robotics
Ever wanted to build a robot? Here is the chance to do exactly that. The limitations of
what you can do with robots is virtually limitless and only restricted by your imagination.
A basic understanding of electronics will be taught before designing and building a robot.
